Senior Snapshot: Jo Chiang

The Nine Ways of Knowing has decided to profile some of the amazing women of the class of 2015, and we’re so sad to see them leave! If you’d like to be featured on the blog or know someone who should definitely be profiled, email us at ninewaysofknowing@gmail.com.

Name: Jo Chiang
Hometown: Fremont, CA
Major: Theatre

What are You Involved In?
I’ve worked with nearly every theatre group on campus, though the King’s Crown Shakespeare Troupe will forever be the love of my life. I’ve also been involved with the Athena Film Festival, as well as the Athena Scholars program, and in general I do my best to stay engaged with social justice movements around campus. (PS. I’m Barnard Baby)

Guilty Pleasure?
I’m fairly shameless about my pleasures.

Favorite Memory from Barnard?
How about a list?
Thanksgiving dinners in CG, group plays of video games, waiting in line with friends for student rush tickets, always running into folks in Liz’s place which is practically my second home at this point, performing free outdoor Shakespeare, performing free outdoor Shakespeare IN THE RAIN, summer hang-outs, making friends the first week of my first year, making friends the last month of my senior year, hugging Dean Hollibaugh, the Athena Film Festival hustle, and the conversations, all the never-ending, invigorating, exhausting, provocative conversations…
Every tear, every bruise, every laugh, every moment has been an experience, and that’s my favorite thing of all.

Biggest Regret of College?
Ironically, there are a lot of things I wish I said no to/been brave enough to quit.

Biggest Leap of Faith During College?
It was in college that I really came face to face with the understanding that I wanted to act for a living. I’m still in mid-leap. Only time will tell where I’ll land.

What Will You Miss?
The families I found.

What Won’t You Miss?
The ways this school has hurt many people I care about.

Favorite Place On or Off Campus?
Lehman Lawn on a sunny day.

In 5 Words or Less, What’s Next?
So many stories to tell.

Midnight Breakfast or Orgo Night?
Why settle for hipster racism when you can have delicious carbs instead?

If you were a Morningside Heights Bar or Restaurant Which Would You Be?
I’m more like a food cart tbh. Never in one place for too long, but when it’s 2am and you need something to keep you going, I’ll be there.

Who Will Play You in a Biopic of Your Life?
Um Lucy Liu duh.
