Senior Snapshot: Maya Halbert

The Nine Ways of Knowing has decided to profile some of the amazing women of the class of 2015, and we’re so sad to see them leave! If you’d like to be featured on the blog or know someone who should definitely be profiled, email us at ninewaysofknowing@gmail.com.

Name: Maya Halbert
Hometown: Nasvhille, TN
Major: Architecture

What are You Involved In?
Performing, directing, and choreographing for dance groups! Orchesis, CBC, Dances at Miller, CUBE, DTW when that was a thing, etc.

Guilty Pleasure?
Crafting. Also lately, baguette en épi from Maison Kayser.

Favorite Memory from Barnard?
Japanese class with Sato Sensei. Performing with Orchesis. That time I made a cheesecake in the middle of the night. Dancing in a drum circle to a Jerusalem sunset. Having the best times with my boyfriend / love of my life!

Biggest Regret of College?
Living in a Hewitt single the summer of 2013. No A/C during a heat wave. Nothing was worth it anymore.

Biggest Leap of Faith During College?
Leaving it, actually. I took a gap year between my first and second years of college, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made! I trained with a ballet company in Portland, Oregon, held two part-time jobs, and worked harder than I ever have in my life. It was amazing and so, so worth it.

What Will You Miss?
Dance performance opportunities.

What Won’t You Miss?
All-nighters with an X-acto knife and pieces of basswood sticks in the architecture studio

Favorite Place On or Off Campus?
Lincoln Center
