New NWK Staff and a Letter from the Editor

Dear Readers,

The Nine Ways of Knowing started as crazy idea. When we launched in January 2011, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But my roommate and I had a lofty goal. We wanted to create a website by Barnard students for Barnard students that covered the issues and events we cared about, that we weren’t seeing covered anywhere else. Neither of us had any real background in journalism whatsoever but we logged into Blogger and hit the ground running.

It still stuns me how much The Nine Ways of Knowing has grown in the last three semesters. We post with greater frequency, break campus news, redesigned our website, and get more new readers every day. I wish that as Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief I could take credit but I can’t. There is no way this ever would have happened without our fantastic staff and of course, our readers.

I have been the Editor-in-Chief since our launch. It has been fun, stressful, and crazy but, most of all, immensely rewarding. I am so proud of everything this blog has achieved. Whether it is interviewing Gloria Steinem at the Athena Film Festival or befriending some of the most wonderful women I’ve ever met, The Nine Ways of Knowing has been a defining moment of my time here at Barnard. I can only hope that I have given as much to the blog as it has given to me.

As you might have guessed, this is a goodbye letter, of sorts. While I am not leaving the blog’s staff, I am stepping down as Editor-in-Chief. In order for our growth to continue, we needed a new Editor-in-Chief to step in and take us to the next level. Olivia Goldman, who has gone above and beyond as Senior Editor, will be taking the reins this fall. After the break you will find the full list of our new executive and editorial boards.

Have a great summer, we’ll see you in the fall.

Sincerely,
Samantha Plotner

  1. “Whether it is interviewing Gloria Steinam at the Athena Film Festival or befriending some of the most wonderful women I’ve ever met The Nine Ways of Knowing has been a defining moment of my time here at Barnard.” Missing a comma after “I've ever met”

  2. i love looking at the blog, the articles are well written and thoughtful. I think you have made a major contribution to our school.
